Memories of GHS>

***I remember crushes
and working at Rowell's on weekends and Wednesday nights. I think the song
"Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" describes my attitude in those days. I
covered up my insecurities by dancing well at Tumble Inn and laughing at
nothing and everything and being "witty”. I remember my good buddies, my
sorority sisters, including my best friend from first grade, Doris Beck
Wittkorn,( we still keep in touch). I had a " love/hate
relationship" with Ms. Sklar, three years with the same Art teacher was
enough to stunt anyone's creativity. However, I met Gail Glynn Meckling in
that class. We survived it together, (we still keep in touch). ***I also devoured books, wrote very bad poetry that had to rhyme, made drawings constantly, and daydreamed I would become a famous artist. .I admired Ms. Glassberg, who was sensitive enough to encourage my imagination and my writing. Somehow, I got through Germantown (despite being caught smoking in the stairwell the last day of class with those who shall be nameless)! I was surprised when I attended Tyler School Of Fine Arts at Temple U., that I had received a great education at Germantown in spite of myself! I did not become a "famous artist", but I am a "big fish in a little pond" and I swim quite contently through a rainbow sea. |
